33rd District residents encouraged to nominate local veterans, community servants

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Rep. Marc Veasey (TX-33) has announced that he is accepting nominations for the 2014 Congressional Veteran Commendation (CVC), a program designed to honor distinguished veterans of the 33rd congressional district of Texas and preserve their stories for future generations.

"Our service men and women deserve recognition and gratitude for their sacrifices to this nation, and it's the responsibility of each of us to ensure that their service does not go unrecognized," said Veasey, who is a member of the House Armed Services Committee. "Texas has a proud tradition of military service, and I have personally met with numerous veterans deserving of this honor, which is why I'm encouraging constituents to nominate a veteran living in the 33rd District."

The CVC is a nominations-based program designed to recognize the active duty sacrifices and community involvement of veterans of the 33rd Congressional District of Texas. Honorees will include exceptional Americans on and off the battlefield.

In order to be considered for this award, nominees must currently reside in Texas' 33rd Congressional District, have served as active duty military personnel or been reservists called to active duty, and be retired or honorably discharged from a branch of the United States Armed Forces.

The 2014 CVC recipients are selected by a board and are publicly announced and honored by Congressman Marc Veasey during a special ceremony on November 10, 2014. They will also have the opportunity to be interviewed for the Veterans History Project through the Library of Congress, should the veterans choose to participate.
