Rep. Marc Veasey Travels to Israel with Members of House Democratic Congressional Delegation

August 6, 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, U.S. Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, will participate in a Congressional Delegation Seminar to Israel to learn more about issues critical to the U.S.-Israel relationship and international security.

Congressman Veasey and 36 other Members of Congress will spend the week traveling across Israel and the West Bank. House Democratic Whip, Congressman Steny Hoyer, will serve as the senior Member of the group traveling across the region from August 5 to 11.

“American national security interests are tied to developments in the Middle East and specifically to Israel’s own security. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, this trip to Israel, our strongest ally in the region, is a chance to gain first-hand insight on core issues of security, defense cooperation, and foreign policy,” said Congressman Veasey. “As peace talks resume between Israel and Palestine, we will have a unique opportunity to promote lasting peace in the region, as well as to explore international opportunities for our constituents by speaking with Israeli leaders on foreign policy issues including homeland security, trade and immigration.”

The Congressional Delegation Seminar will meet with Israeli and Palestinian opposition members, peace negotiators, defense and economic experts, and government officials, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The trip will also include meetings with Ambassador Dan Shapiro and military officials and visits to important historical and cultural sites, including the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial. The delegation will spend time visiting historic Jewish, Christian, Islamic holy sites, absorption centers for new immigrants, and military bases.

The trip is organized and paid for by the American Israel Education Foundation (AIEF), an independent, nonprofit charitable organization.
