MEDIA ADVISORY: Congressman Veasey Helps Injured DFW Employees Get Back to Work

September 14, 2015

Rep. Veasey works with Advantage Healthcare Systems for his September ‘Marc Means Business’ workday

Dallas, TX – On Tuesday, September 15, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, will scrub in as he joins the staff of Advantage Healthcare Systems, the Dallas location of a family owned series of healthcare centers that provide occupational and physical therapy to injured workers. Rep. Veasey will be helping behind the counter, distributing initial intake paperwork to patients, and assisting with patient physical therapy to learn firsthand what it takes to help injured workers return to the workforce.

"While helping DFW residents secure well-paying jobs remains one of my top priorities in Congress, we cannot neglect the currently employed who are injured on the job. Advantage Healthcare Systems takes on this important task through its 16 year track record of helping return our community's workers back to work quicker and healthier. As we work to ensure that American workers nationwide have access to the healthcare resources they need to stay healthy, like paid sick leave, it is also imperative to remember the businesses that already support our community's injured workers. The work of rehabilitative centers like Advantage Healthcare Systems allows those injured on the job to return to their places of employment, restores their ability to support their families and contribute to the local economy," Congressman Veasey said.

In November 1999, Linda Riley and her son, John Zacharias, established Advantage Healthcare Systems as a response to an ongoing need in the DFW Metroplex for a multidisciplinary pain program that educates patients on pain control without fostering dependency. Advantage Healthcare Systems remains a family owned business with a total of six clinics throughout Texas.

Since March 2014, Rep. Veasey has spent a day each month working at a different job in his district. He has assembled surgical packs with eye care company Alcon, practiced fire safety drills with the Fort Worth Fire Department, and delivered packages with the United Parcel Service. The Marc Means Business series connects Rep. Veasey with constituents at their place of employment to better understand the challenges they face in their work and daily lives.
