Gun-Owning Members of Congress, Advocates Demand Senate Action on Gun Violence Prevention

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Deputy Whip of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, Rep. Veasey (TX-33), joined Chairman of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, Rep. Thompson (CA-05) along with Rep. Spanberger (VA-07), Rep. Titus (NV-01), Rep. Sherill (NJ-11), Rep. McBath (GA-06) and advocates to demand the Senate take action to end gun violence to take up H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, and H.R. 1112, the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2019.
"I am a hunter from Texas—a state that has one of the top twenty highest gun ownership rates in this country," said Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33). Gun safety and the Second Amendment have always been a part of my life—that's why I, as a responsible gunowner that respects that safety and security, am here today—because this epidemic of gun violence must stop."
Both H.R. 8 and H.R. 1112 are bipartisan bills that were passed by the House in February and have been blocked for a vote by Senate Majority Leader McConnell for more than 200 days. The bipartisan and common-sense bills will curb gun violence by making background checks universal, keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals and closing existing loopholes like the one that permitted the Charleston Church massacre to occur.
