Congressman Veasey (TX-33) Statement on Joining Resolution to Censure President Trump
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) released the following statement after joining Congressman Hank Johnson's motion to censure President Trump following his attempt to intimidate Georgia's Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger:
"I just want to find 11,780 votes.
Those were the words of President Trump when he pressured the Georgia secretary of state to "find" enough votes to overturn his electoral defeat in that state.
The President's threats are the latest in an alarming pattern of coercing public officials to join him in an assault on our democracy and our fair and free electoral system.
I believe President Trump's latest action is a flagrant abuse of power and constitutes a potential criminal act—that is why I am joining a group of my colleagues today to censure and condemn the holder of the highest office."
