Congressman Veasey (TX-33), Congresswoman Granger (TX-12) Lead Effort to Rename Fort Worth Post Office “The Dionne Phillips Bagsby Post Office Building”

January 10, 2020

Fort Worth, Texas — Today, Congressman Marc Veasey and Congresswoman Kay Granger announced that they introduced legislation that would rename a US Post Office in Fort Worth after Dionne Phillips Bagsby—a trailblazer in Tarrant County who paved the way for the inclusion for women and minority leadership in government in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area.

"I hold my position in the U.S. House of Representatives because of women like Dionne Bagsby that fought for the inclusion of minorities in all levels of government," said Congressman Marc Veasey. "I am honored to introduce this legislation that will commemorate her contributions and honor her legacy and commitment to the Tarrant County community."

Dionne Bagsby was the first woman and first African-American to be elected to the Tarrant County Commissioners Court. Mrs. Bagsby led a new era in minority employment and participation at the county level and helped provide greater resources for women, children and the disadvantaged. She was an alumnus of Leadership Fort Worth (LFW) and received the organization's Distinguished Leadership Award. Mrs. Bagsby died Jan. 10, passing away at the age of 82.
