Congressman Veasey (TX-33) Commemorates May as Health and Fitness Month

May 5, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33), re-committed his pledge to empower all Americans to adopt a healthier lifestyle. By introducing a resolution to commemorate the month of May as "Health and Fitness Month," Veasey invites the nation to make healthy habits a priority during these unprecedented times.

"We must be doing all we can to promote a healthy lifestyle that will help eradicate this pandemic," said Congressman Marc Veasey. "That is why I am proud to introduce this resolution that dedicates May to helping Americans everywhere live a health-conscious lifestyle that will help keep our communities safe."

According to the Office of Disease Prevention, children and adults who are physically active are healthier and less likely to develop many chronic diseases compared to those who aren't active. Per a 2016 report entitled, "The State of Obesity: Better Policies for a Healthier America," Texas now has the 10th highest adult obesity rate in the nation. To reverse the alarming rate of obesity in our nation, Congressman Veasey is committed to helping Americans make gradual changes to their daily habits in order to live longer and healthier lives. Additionally, the rise of COVID-19 has raised questions about how we can strengthen our immune systems and protect ourselves from being infected by deadly viruses. By eating nutritious food, staying fit & active, and following other health guidelines, we can boost our immune systems and thus, minimize our risk of infections to viruses and diseases, expedite our recovery, and lower our likelihood of infecting others.
