Congressman Veasey Statement on Trump Request for Military Parade

February 7, 2018

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement about President Trump's reported request that the Department of Defense organize him a military parade:

"I have always been and will continue to be a strong supporter of our veterans, service members, and their families. I am eternally grateful for the sacrifices they make on behalf of our country every day. With recent reports stating Trump's interests in pursuing a military parade, I am concerned that this has more to do with indulging President Trump's authoritarian tendencies than honoring our fallen soldiers or advocating for ways we can provide meaningful assistance to service members' needs here at home and abroad.

Instead of an expensive political ploy, this Administration should focus on how Congress can work together to allocate resources to support military families, ease the transition to civilian life for our returning service members, and assist operations at the Department of Veteran Affairs. We can all see that the President's goal is to transfer his personal feuds with authoritarian leaders from Twitter onto the streets of our nation."
