Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement regarding his vote in favor of H.R. 4038, the American SAFE Act of 2015:

“Last week’s tragic attacks in Paris have once again reaffirmed the need to combat terrorism as a global community and stand together against those who wish to endanger innocent lives. The American people are understandably worried and they have a right to know about the process we use to screen refugees. The bill presented today had reasonable and sound security provisions that do not halt the refugee process. Instead, they balance the need for a secure vetting process with our nation’s reputation for treating vulnerable populations fairly and humanely.  While we must remain vigilant about any security threats at home and abroad, we must not allow our resolve to defeat ISIL to develop into misguided xenophobia against any specific religion or nationality.”
