Congressman Veasey Statement on House Bipartisan Budget Agreement
WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 1314, a bipartisan two-year budget agreement:
"House Democrats have repeatedly asked House Republicans to work across the aisle to propose a budget that relieves sequestration spending caps and invests in America's hardworking families. I supported the bipartisan budget agreement because it puts an end to a cycle of manufactured crises and fulfills our commitments to our nation's armed services members, seniors, and families.
"The deal has some key provisions I strongly support. It provides sequester relief for both defense and non-defense priorities, prevents a 20% cut in disability benefits for millions of seniors, affirms the full faith and credit of the United States with a clean debt limit suspension, and supports more economic certainty and the creation of thousands of American jobs."
"This week's votes on the two-year budget agreement and the re-authorization of the Export-Import Bank demonstrated that bipartisanship is possible. Congress needs to continue working together to address the issues that matter to the American people."
