Congressman Veasey Statement on Export-Import Bank Re-authorization
WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement after voting to reauthorize the Export-Import bank:
"Today, I voted in favor of H.R. 597, a bill to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank. Due to House Republicans inaction this summer, the Export-Import Bank has been unable to process any applications or engage in new business since July 1. Previously, the Bank's reauthorization received bipartisan support as it helped finance U.S. exporters and supported thousands of jobs nationwide. In my home state of Texas, the Export-Import bank supported over 1,700 exporters and authorized over $29 billion dollars in export activity from 2007 to 2015.
Even in the few months since its expiration, failing to reauthorize the Ex-Im bank has cost real Americans jobs in the DFW Metroplex. Recently, General Electric considered moving its headquarters to Dallas, but passed due to strong opposition to the Export-Import Bank from Texan Republican lawmakers. While I am happy that over 40 Republicans joined House Democrats to help bring the Ex-Im bank's reauthorization to a vote this week, we cannot continue playing games with the American economy. I am committed to growing the TX-33 economy and re-authorizing the Export-Import Bank is an important step in continuing to make the DFW Metroplex an attractive place for businesses."
