Congressman Veasey Seeks Young Artists for 2014 Congressional Art Competition

March 7, 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, invites local high school students to showcase their artistic talent in the 2014 Congressional Art Competition. This is the second year the newly created 33rd District will participate in the nationwide search for young artists.

Since the creation of the competition in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. The winner, in addition to having their artwork displayed in the Capitol, will also be provided with two roundtrip tickets to attend the ribbon cutting ceremonies of the art exhibit in Washington, D. C.

Last year, senior Carlos Ramirez from Grand Prairie High School took the top prize. His winning entry, “Sewing Machines” was selected from over 30 submissions. All art submissions were honored at the district’s reception and the winner was recognized in a reception in Washington, D.C.
