Congressman Veasey’s Statement on House Republican Leadership’s Continued Attack Against DREAMers
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement regarding the two anti-immigrant bills, H.R. 4138 the ENFORCE Act and H.R. 3973 the Faithful Execution of the Law Act, that takes direct aim at DREAMers:
“Instead of House Republican Leadership addressing comprehensive immigration reform that would provide relief to families and Latino communities as well as improve our economy, House Republican Leadership again chose to play political games with the lives of productive members of society.
Today, House Republicans Leadership allowed a vote on two politically charged bills, the ENFORCE Act and the Faithful Execution of the Law Act, that unjustly attack the President for utilizing his legitimate executive authority to help DREAMers. These anti-immigrant bills come months after the House passed a poison pill amendment in the Homeland Appropriations Bill to defund the President’s Deferred Action Executive Order for DREAMers. Both of these bill are going nowhere in the Senate. The constant political posturing of the House must stop and we need to return to considering substantive issues that create jobs and grow our economy.
I am greatly disappointed that House Republican Leadership continues to undermine efforts that would halt senseless deportations and fix our broken immigration system. I continue to stand behind the 11 million undocumented immigrants who only want an opportunity to reunite with their families and pursue their passions out of the shadows.”
