Congressman Veasey Releases Statement on Averting Government Shutdown:

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Veasey, Vice Chair of the New Democrat Coalition, released the following statement after the House of Representatives voted to avert a government shut down: 

“Democrats once again acted in good faith to prevent a government shutdown, ensuring that tens of thousands of workers, veterans, service members, seniors, and farmers receive their pay and benefits this holiday season,” said Congressman Veasey. “But make no mistake, this was a Democratic effort to keep food on the table for the American people. Republicans, however, went back on their word at the behest of an unelected oligarch, Elon Musk. They stripped funding for children's cancer research, slashed resources for the opioid epidemic, dropped measures that would have made prescription drugs more affordable, and abandoned initiatives that would have saved taxpayers billions. Despite the broken promises, Democrats did the right thing—we voted to put food on families’ tables. However, in the new year and new Congress we (Democrats) will continue to fight for the average American and the critical measures Republicans left behind.”
