Congressman Veasey on Senate Immigration Reform Plan

April 17, 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C.– Congressman Marc Veasey released the following statement following the unveiling of the comprehensive immigration reform plan by the Senate working group:

“I applaud the Senate working group for coming together and drafting a bipartisan immigration reform bill this week. Our country is moving closer to making comprehensive reform a reality, and I am optimistic that we can continue the progress made. While the Senate's legislation is not perfect, I look forward to working with Congressional Hispanic Caucus Members, like Congressman Luis Gutierrez to make the legislation better.

The United States is a nation of immigrants who have made enormous contributions to our country. We will make our country stronger by bringing 11 million undocumented immigrants out of the shadows. As a father, I also understand the importance of keeping families together and working hard to achieve the American Dream. Over the past few months, I have been a leader on comprehensive immigration reform, participating in immigration marches, cosponsoring important legislation, and meeting with key leaders and constituency groups.

The Senate proposal is the beginning of a serious conversation and I look forward to further consideration and debate on this important topic. I will not stop fighting for comprehensive immigration reform until it becomes reality.”
