Congressman Veasey Named Co-Chair of House Democrats’ Jobs for America Task Force to Create A Robust Jobs, Economic Agenda

September 13, 2017

Washington, D.C. Today,Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, announced that he will serve in a leadership role in the House Democratic Caucus Jobs for America Task Forces, a unified effort from the House Democratic Caucus to craft a real legislative agenda that will benefit hardworking Americans and middle-class families. Veasey will serve as co-chair for the Access to Jobs Task Force.

"I talk to people in my district every day – and there are thousands of families who continue to struggle to keep their heads above water and are worried about job opportunities for their children," said Congressman Marc Veasey. "As we continue efforts to rebuild America's economy, we must equip our workers with all the tools they need to make sure every American has a real opportunity to ensure a better life for themselves and for their families. The Access to Jobs Task Force has a lot of work to do to ensure we help put Americans back to work and we're eager to tackle the challenge."

The Access to Jobs Task Force will help workers achieve their full potential by expanding access to capital, encouraging entrepreneurship and small business ownership, increasing educational opportunities – including vocational skills development, professional licensing, and apprenticeship training – and eliminating senseless and outdated social barriers to work that affect many communities.

The Access to Jobs Task Force is one of five Democratic Caucus Jobs For America Task Forces aimed at identifying opportunities and solutions for American workers in five key areas: Rebuilding America, Jobs With Dignity, Access to Jobs, New Economy, and Reinvesting in Our Returning Heroes. In the coming months, co-chairs of each task force will meet with business and labor leaders, issue experts, and American workers to develop policy goals and solutions that will benefit all Americans. The effort was launched by the House Democratic Caucus.

"Expanding opportunities for American workers is a critical component to any jobs agenda. The Access to Jobs task force will give workers access to much-needed job training and prospects that will help them secure jobs with higher wages and greater security," said House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY). "I'm grateful to Congressman Veasey for his leadership in this important effort that will open the door of opportunity for a greater number of Americans."
