Congressman Veasey Joins Fort Worth Based Roofing Company for a "Day's Work

Rep. Veasey kicked off National Small Business Week by working alongside the Lon Smith Roofing crew as part of his "Marc Means Business" initiative

Carrollton, Texas - On Monday, April 30, 2018, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, worked alongside employees of Lon Smith Roofing, the largest residential roofer in the state of Texas, as part of April's "Marc Means Business" workday.

"For a little over 4 years I have worked at various of local businesses across my district," said Congressman Veasey. "It is always a great learning experience and eye-opening to discover the skills that are necessary for each job," added Rep. Veasey. "The work isn't easy, but these guys make it look effortless."

Throughout the work day, Congressman Veasey was taught the safety precautions Lon Smith Roofing employees take to avoid accidents and ensure their job is well done. He also installed shingles on a residential roof, and helped to clean up the work site once the crew's job was complete.

Lon Smith Roofing is based in the 33rd Congressional District and their "Commitment to Excellence" has made them the largest residential roofing business in the state. Started by Lon Smith in 1974, the company has over 43 years serving the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex community.The company is also proudly part of Texas' more than 2.6 million small businesses, employing over 142 people in the state.

Since March 2014, Congressman Veasey has worked alongside hardworking Texans at businesses and employers throughout the 33rd Congressional District. Throughout the last four years, Rep. Veasey has served as a barista at the local Starbucks, performed door-to-door trash pickup at one of Dallas' affordable housing developments, and worked at a carnicera. The Marc Means Business series gives Congressman Veasey a chance to meet with constituents at their place of employment and helps him better understand the challenges they face in their work and daily lives.
