Congressman Veasey Helps Family-Owned Tortilla & Tamale Business Prep for Holiday Season

December 18, 2015

Dallas, TX – On Monday, December 21, 2015, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, will be prepping a Dallas institution for the busy holiday season during his December ‘Marc Means Business' workday at Dallas Tortilla & Tamale Factory. Veasey will be rolling up his sleeves to help make the Mexican holiday staple by learning to make tamales and tortillas, packing and sealing tamales, tostadas, and chips for distribution, and manning the cash register.

"For Texans, and especially the Mexican-American community, nothing says the holidays quite like tamales. I'm eager to not only learn how to make a Texas holiday staple, but also how Congress can support small family-owned businesses like Dallas Tortilla & Tamale factory. My ‘Marc Means Business' workdays help me learn directly from small business owners about the tools they need to expand their business and create jobs in our community," Veasey said.

For six decades, Dallas Tortilla and Tamale Factory has provided authentic Mexican cuisine for the DFW Metroplex. From its humble beginnings as a small tortilla factory, the family-owned and operated business has expanded to three locations in the Dallas area.

Since March 2014, Rep. Veasey has spent a day each month working at a different job in his district to learn firsthand about the challenges his constituents face in their daily lives. He has worked with the housekeeping staff at Holiday Inn Express & Suites, learned to make pastries at a Mexican bakery, and practiced fire safety drills with the Fort Worth Fire Department.
