Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) Statement on Passing of North Texas Sports Legend Leondas Rambo

December 18, 2020

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Congressman Marc Veasey issued the below statement following the recent passing of Leondas Rambo—legendary assistant to Robert Hughes, a Basketball Hall of Fame Coach from Fort Worth's Dunbar High School in North Texas:

"Fort Worth lost an integral part of our community this past week. For decades, Leonadas Rambo served as a star assistant and integral part of the basketball dynasty for Fort Worth's Dunbar high school—the winningest boy's high school basketball team in America with over 1,000 wins. During his tenure, Rambo served as the right-hand man for Coach Robert Hughes and joined him to propel the team to the legendary status that they hold today.

The whole community is mourning this loss. Rambo was not only a sports legend, but he was one of the nicest people I have ever had the privilege of knowing. I will always remember that after his retirement from his tenure in 2005, I would see him out in our community with his family and he was always one of the friendliest and encouraging people with the best sense of humor.

I join friends, family, Fort Worth's Dunbar High School, and our extended community in mourning the loss of a legend in North Texas community—Coach Rambo."
