Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) released the below statement following the United States Senate's vote to acquit President Donald Trump for the impeachment charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress:

"Today's decision to acquit President Trump leaves a stain on the fabric of our nation. Last year, I joined my colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives to formally impeach President Trump when it became clear he threatened our national security and abused the power of the highest office for his own personal gain. Today, the Senate set a dangerous precedent for future leaders when they decided to put partisanship over the American constitution and acquit the President, instead of holding him accountable for the high crimes he committed. We now as a House must continue our fight to preserve the strength of our democracy and uphold our American electoral system."
