Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) Leads Resolution To Fight Against Trump Administration's Harmful Medicaid Block Grant Plan
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) announced that he will lead his colleagues on a resolution to disapprove of the Trump Administration's proposed Medicaid block grant plan. This week's resolution comes on the heels of President Trump's announcement that would allow states to receive a waiver to block grant their Medicaid programs for adults in the expansion population—a move that would drastically roll back access to Medicaid for millions of low income Americans and scale back important beneficiary protections, restrict eligibility standards, and limit access to prescription drugs.
"President Trump's decision to roll back Medicaid is just one part of this Administration's continued assault on affordable and accessible health care," said Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33). "These illegal block grants are just plain wrong. They will allow states who participate to limit the amount of federal dollars they receive to pay for the health care for the millions of lower income and vulnerable people across our country that depend on this program."
This resolution builds upon Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33)'s robust record of expanding access to affordable health care. Just in the 116th Congress, Congressman Veasey spearheaded legislation to incentivize Medicaid expansion, lower prescription drug prices for seniors and combat maternal mortality. Congressman Veasey also joined his colleagues to pass the Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act (H.R. 3)—bold legislation to lower skyrocketing drug prices. Congressman Veasey has also advanced legislation that would protect access to health care coverage for those with pre-existing conditions.
