Congressman Marc Veasey Speaks on Debt Limit Vote
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Marc Veasey spoke on the Floor of the U.S. House of Representatives in opposition to H.R. 807, the “Full Faith and Credit Act.” Under this Republican-led “Pay China First” proposal, bondholders from China and other foreign nations would be paid first, putting payments to Americans at risk. Congressman Veasey delivered the following remarks:
“Once again, the Republican majority has chosen to play politics with the credit of our nation. Instead of coming to the table with solutions, they are ensuring that we will come to a default on our nation’s debt. This bill accomplishes one simple goal: Pay China First. If Republicans cause a default on our nation’s debt, H.R. 807 would guarantee that bondholders in China and other foreign nations will get paid before our men and woman in uniform, honorable veterans, and the doctors and hospitals that take care of our seniors on Medicare. Are these truly the right priorities for our country Mr. Chairman?
Democrats are focused on economic recovery, job growth, and securing the future for middle class families in America. We are ready to act now on common-sense budget proposals that are balanced and fair. I ask the majority to stop the political games, and let’s work together on common sense solutions to strengthen our country.”
