Congressman Marc Veasey’s Statement on the Release of President Obama’s FY 2015 Budget

March 4, 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C.Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement on the release of the President’s FY 2015 Budget:

“The 2015 Fiscal Year Budget plan that President Obama unveiled today focuses on America's top priorities: job creation and strengthening the economy to ensure that all Americans have an equal opportunity to achieve the American Dream.

“The President’s ‘Opportunity, Growth, and Security Initiative,’ provides a blueprint for Congress that will boost investments to spur job creation, reinvigorate our economy, increase spending on early childhood education, cut through the red tape for access to higher education in order to prepare our workforce for the 21st century, and to close the opportunity gap.

“For many families in the 33rd Congressional District, this budget plan ensures we move our local and national economy forward by adopting an agenda that protects our workers, women, and families, by ensuring fair pay, educational opportunity, and affordable child care for all.

“To prepare Americans for the jobs of the future and help restore the middle-class, we must start with a strong school system. Quality education ensures limitless opportunities for our children. But, this is only possible if we make higher education more affordable. The President’s Budget ensures that the education system in Texas and throughout our nation provides the tools to grow the minds of our leaders of tomorrow. By investing in early preschool education, expanding STEM education, and creating public-private partnerships, we ensure secondary and college graduates receive high-quality, high paying jobs.

“The key to ensuring opportunity for all is investing in our workforce. By lifting the federal minimum wage and providing tax breaks to our families, we invest in the security and welfare of our children and our economy. People who work hard and play by the rules should be able to afford to live with dignity and raise a family.

“As the House continues to work on the nation’s budget, I look forward to having an open and honest conversation with my colleagues across the aisle to secure a fiscal agenda that provides security and opportunity for all Americans.”
