Addresses Need for Collaboration Between Education and Industry at CBCF'S Annual Legislative Conference

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Marc Veasey will take part in Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's 44rd Annual Legislative Conference at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center to discuss the importance of initiatives that prepare high school students with the education they need to compete in the 21st century economy.

"Engaging students through meaningful academic experiences and work-based learning has never been more important," stated Rep. Veasey. "Creating experiences for high school students to link their studies to their future careers is critical in order to bridge the skills gap and provide opportunities for the future."

The forum entitled "Collaboration and Engagement for Career Success" will be held in room 147-A from 1:30-3:30pm EST on Thursday, September 25, 3014. Attendees will learn what companies and organizations are currently doing to prepare high school students for college and careers, while closing the skills gap in communities around the country. Presenters will address the connection between education, industry, and career planning, and share strategies on how to replicate their models to fill jobs shortages in in-demand fields such as STEM and manufacturing.

The panel will feature special Keynote Speaker, Rex Tillerson, CEO, ExxonMobil and Moderator, Sharon Epperson, CNBC Correspondent and Today Show Contributor.
