February 11, 2013

FORT WORTH, TX – Congressman Marc Veasey has invited Julieta Garibay to be his special guest at President Obama’s State of the Union Address tomorrow, Tuesday, February 12. Julieta has strong ties to Texas’ 33rdcongressional district and has been one of the most visible leaders in the DREAM Act movement.

“Today’s DREAMers are leading one of the most important civil rights movements of our generation. I’m excited to have Julieta join me at the President’s State of the Union Address. Julieta and I are close allies in the fight for comprehensive immigration reform and together, we will ensure that the voices of our DREAMers and those of the 11 million undocumented immigrant community are heard,” said Congressman Marc Veasey.

In January 2001, Ms. Julieta Garibay became one of the first “DREAMers” in Texas to pursue a higher education when the Dallas County Community College began a pilot program for undocumented students. Julieta studied at Richland College and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from El Centro County Community College in Dallas. She has held a license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas since 2004. She’s also a founding board member of the United We Dream Network (UWD), which is the first and largest immigrant led youth organization in the nation. Her story has been featured in TIME Magazine and shared by Senator Dick Durbin on the Senate Floor. Click here to see TIME Magazine’s coverage of Julieta Garibay.
