Irving Chamber hosted breakfast reception for Rep. Marc Veasey

July 8, 2014

The Irving Chamber hosted a breakfast reception Monday for U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey, 33rd District. The Congresman discussed his local agenda, which included his top priorities of economic development and job growth, helping cities with long-term transportation plans and education.

Rep. Veasey said he's new to working in Dallas County since as a Texas Representative, his Fort Worth district reached only to Arlington. The 33rd Congresssional District stretches all the way from Fort Worth across part of Arlington to Irving, Grand Prairie and Oak Cliff in Dallas.

Past Chamber chair Lisa Sturgeon of Allstate recognized reception sponsor Lockheed Martin and special guests before introducing Rep. Veasey.

After his talk, Rep. Veasey took a few questions that ranged from veterans affairs to immigration reform. When asked about the influx of children coming to this country, he answered that there is "concern about the quality of life in countries close to us." He was also asked if he'd support high-speed rail, and he replied that he'd like to learn more to see if it can happen.

Sturgeon closed the event by inviting guests to the Irving Chamber's Congressional Roundtable on Aug. 18 featuring Rep. Veasey, Rep. Kenn Marchant, Rep. Pete Sessions and Bill Hammond of the Texas Association of Business.
