Democrats: Student Success Act unacceptable

Two Texas school districts are among the top 20 districts across the country to experience the largest reduction under the funding plan. Houston ISD, with a poverty rate of 33.9 percent, will experience a cut of $17.1 million. Dallas ISD, with a poverty rate of 36.8 percent, will experience a cut of $13 million, according to the report.

"I voted against the partisan H.R. 5, Student Success Act that passed the House earlier this afternoon," said Rep. Marc Veasey, D-Texas, member of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. "This reauthorization bill undermines the intended purpose of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, which was written to help states prepare all children for college and careers. However, H.R. 5 represents a step backwards in education and hurts the success of our youth at every turn …"
