Dallas and Fort Worth mayor, others, are coming out to announce something about American Airlines

October 16, 2013

68 Democrats in Congress sent a letter to President Obama urging that the DOJ drop its lawsuit. The two congressmen named in the press release were Rep. Marc Veasey of Fort Worth and Rep. Ed Pastor of Phoenix.

“With more than 20,000 American Airlines employees in the DFW area alone, I have serious concerns about the Department of Justice’s lawsuit against US Airways and American Airlines which will put the jobs of these hard working Texans and thousands of other Americans at risk,” Veasey said in the press release. “I believe this merger is good for our local economy, good for consumers, good for competition and should be approved.”

“I’m proud to show my support for the merger of American Airlines and US Airways because it creates new economic opportunities for thousands of workers in Arizona and more choices for travelers,” Pastor said. “I hope the administration will recognize the benefits of this combination and settle the lawsuit immediately.”

As of now, the trial on the DOJ’s antitrust lawsuit is scheduled to begin Nov. 25 with closing arguments Jan. 6 and a decision by Jan. 10.
