Veasey Statement on Oral Arguments for United States v. Texas

April 18, 2016

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement in anticipation of oral arguments for United States v. Texas, the Supreme Court case challenging President Obama’s immigration executive actions to extend Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and implement the Deferred Action for Parental Accountability (DAPA) program:

“As hundreds gather at the steps of the Supreme Court to fight for immigrant families, I remain confident that the Court will confirm the legal authority of President Obama’s immigration executive actions. While the only permanent solution to fix our nation’s broken immigration system remains the responsibility of Congress, the President used his authority within existing laws to establish common-sense enforcement priorities instead of tearing families apart. The 2012 DACA program has already changed the lives of thousands of young immigrants by allowing them to study and work legally in the only country they’ve called home. I know that the expansion of this successful program will prove as life changing for the eligible young people and the parents of U.S. citizens as it has been for the original DACA recipients. The stalled implementation of the DACA+ and DAPA programs have left hardworking families in limbo for far too long and North Texas is ready to welcome them out of the shadows to fully contribute to our community.”
