Veasey Statement on CBO Report Estimates 24 Million Americans Will Lose Health Care Coverage Under GOP Health Care Plan

March 13, 2017

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, released the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office reported that 14 million Americans would lose health care coverage in 2018 and 52 million people in the U.S. would be without insurance by 2026 if the House Republicans' health care replacement is enacted:

"Democrats have fought House Republicans' tooth and nail to prevent passage of their poorly written health care bill without first providing a CBO report explaining the impact of the healthcare plan on millions of Americans who stand to lose coverage. Today, some of our worst suspicions about this terrible health care replacement have been confirmed. 14 million hardworking Americans will lose health insurance in 2018 alone and 24 million are slated to lose coverage over the next decade. House Republicans' health care plan pulls the rug out from under millions of children, adults with disabilities, and poor seniors who depend on the expanded Medicaid program. By working around the clock to jam this bill through Congress, House Republicans are showing no regard for the 1.5 million Texans who gained coverage under the Affordable Care Act."
