January 23, 2014

Partners with the Texas Workforce Commission to bring dozens of businesses and professional workshops to hundreds of job-seekers

DALLAS-FORT WORTH – Today, Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33), along with the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), will host in the 33rd Congressional District Job Fair on Friday, January 24, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.at the Tarrant County Resource Connection Conference Center, located at 2300 Circle Drive in Fort Worth. The job fair is free and open to the public.

"America is moving in the right direction, but there is still much work that needs to be done," said Rep. Veasey. "Job creation is a top priority for me. By partnering with the Texas Workforce Commission, today, we've brought together our community's top job-creators, with job-seekers. This event will help workers find good jobs, which will put dollars right back into our local economy. "

Dozens of employers and job-seekers are expected to convene at today's jobs fair in Fort Worth. From AT&T to the Dallas Sheriff's Department, there are companies, businesses, and government agencies to meet nearly every field of employment.

With the growing Latino population in the Metroplex, Dallas County Sheriff's Department is recruiting Spanish-speaking bilingual individuals to help manage the seventh largest jail in the nation. "At the end of the day, our number one goal is respect the humane rights of all incarcerated individuals," said Carmen Castro of the Dallas County Sheriff's Department. "Being able to communicate in Spanish is just one of several ways to do so for our jail population."

Participants seeking employment will be able to apply for jobs on-site, network with local employers, and attend professional workshops on topics such as networking and resume writing.

"This happens to be Home Depot's largest hiring season," said Home Depot Associate Support Department Supervisor, Cindy Gerred. "When we attend these events, we are there to collect information and to get those acquainted with what a career with The Home Depot has to offer."

"The number one concern for Americans is jobs," said Rep. Veasey. "While I am proud of the work we have already accomplished to spur economic growth, far too many Americans remain unemployed and unable to find work. I will continue to work tirelessly to rebuild our economy in a way that puts our workforce back to work and returns Americans to financial security."
