Rep. Veasey Joins the Fight against Hunger at Fort Worth Food Bank

Fort Worth, TX – Today, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, joined the fight to end hunger as he worked with Community Food Bank volunteers to prepare and distribute nutritious food to hundreds of North Texas families. Veasey spent the morning learning about the hard work that staff and volunteers perform on a regular basis to ensure that DFW residents can access the nutritional resources they need no matter their financial situation. Rep. Veasey also worked alongside food bank volunteers preparing and distributing packs of fresh and frozen meats, produce and dairy items for over 100 residents that lined up for this critical community service.

According to Feeding America, currently 1 in 6 people in America struggle with hunger and 1 in 4 children in North Texas live in food insecure homes, where they may not know when their next meal will come.

"No one should go hungry," Congressman Veasey said. "The critical work that food banks like the Community Food Bank provide on a regular basis for our community members cannot be overlooked. Food banks provide a crucial lifeline for many North Texas families that for a variety of reasons such as low wages, underemployment and unemployment face tough decisions that may lead to their family going hungry. As we look to eradicate hunger nationwide, Congress must continue to support programs like SNAP and reauthorize the ‘Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010'. These programs provide the day-to-day services that families, seniors, and children nationwide rely on to have sufficient food in their homes."
