Congressman Veasey Votes Against House Republicans 52nd Vote to Undermine the Law of the Land

House Republicans Vote to Increase the Deficit by $74 Billion, Force One Million People to Lose Their Employer-Sponsored Coverage, And Increase Number of Uninsured

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33 released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 2575, the Sabotage American Workers Act, by a vote of 248-179:

“Four years after the Affordable Care Act was passed into law, House Republicans continue their quest to undermine and repeal a law that has already provided millions of Americans access to healthcare coverage for the first time.

What House Republicans fail to understand is that by passing H.R. 2575, they are touting the fact that they are willing to drive our nation into a budgetary gap. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office reports that enacting H.R. 2575 will raise the deficit by $74 billion over 10 years, cut employer-based insurance for 1 million people and increase the number of uninsured by 500,000.

The Affordable Care Act was designed to maximize healthcare access and help provide health equity for all Americans. It is clear that House Republicans are solely focused on partisan political gain instead of passing legislation that would renew unemployment insurance for over 2 million Americans, enact comprehensive immigration reform that would reunite families, and raise the minimum wage to lift millions of Americans out of poverty.

Americans have spoken. They want Congress to work together to improve the Affordable Care Act, not repeal it. Let’s quit the political games and pass legislation that helps American families instead of hurting them.”
