June 20, 2014

Federal Funds to assist Child Care Associates in Fort Worth, Texas

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, announced that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded $7.7 million to the Child Care Associates Early Head Start and Head Start Program in Fort Worth, Texas.

In Tarrant County, the Child Care Associates operates 34 centers and has provided services in North Texas for over 45 years. They serve 2,348 children in Head Start; 172 children in Early Head Start; and provide their services to 10 expectant mothers. The grant awarded will ensure that the organization will have qualified educators, nutritional, and health services that enable the development of our children.

"I believe that an investment in our children is an investment in the nation's future," said Congressman Veasey. "The Head Start program has been proven to be an efficient way to assist in closing the achievement gap and providing the building blocks for success. For this reason, I have been a strong supporter of adequately funding the Early Head Start and Head Start program in the FY 2015 HHS Appropriations request."

Head Start is the most successful, longest-running, national school readiness program in the United States. It provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families. Since its creation in 1965, over 30 million pre-school aged children nationwide have directly benefited from the Head Start program.
