Veasey Introduces Bill to Reduce Barriers For Students Applying to College

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Today, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, introduced legislation to prevent students nationwide from missing crucial federal and state grant opportunities that support their higher education aspirations. H.R. 3516, the Reduce Barriers to College Act, will streamline the burdensome Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) verification process for students who must prove that their families did not file federal taxes.

Rep. Veasey Statement on President Trump’s Military Transgender Ban

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement after President Trump announced via twitter that he will ban transgender men and women from serving in the military:

“As a member of the Armed Services Committee, I am appalled that the President of the United States would blatantly abandon any American who is willing to lay down their life to defend their fellow citizens.”

Rep. Veasey & Blue Collar Caucus Hosts AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Members of the Congressional Blue Collar Caucus met Wednesday with Richard L. Trumka, President of the AFL-CIO, to discuss the needs of blue collar workers and how House Democrats can make it clear that they will continue to serve as their champion in Washington. Trumka, a national leader in the fight for workers’ rights and economic justice, began the discussion with remarks on the modern challenges of labor rights and the ongoing effort by Democrats to respond to the needs of working class families.

AFL-CIO President Trumka to Meet with Veasey and Blue Collar Caucus

Washington, D.C.  – On Wednesday, July 19, 2017, the Congressional Blue Collar Caucus, co-chaired by Congressmen Marc Veasey (D-TX) and Brendan F. Boyle (D-PA), will host a “pen and pad” media availability with  Richard Trumka, President of the AFL-CIO, following the Caucus’s second listening session. In an effort to better represent working Americans, the Caucus listening sessions will ensure the Members of Congress hear directly from labor leaders who join in the fight to secure health, wage, and job security for all Americans.

Congressman Veasey Statement After the Department of Justice Urges Courts Not to Challenge Texas Voter ID Law

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, lead plaintiff in the lawsuit Veasey v. Abbott, released the following statement after the Department of Justice urged a federal court in Texas not to take further action on the Texas Voter ID case arguing that changes enacted by the Texas Legislature no longer discriminates against minority voters:
