Dear Friends, During the month of August, I was fortunate to meet with many of you face-to-face and listen to your concerns at my town halls in Fort Worth and Dallas. It is important that I hear directly from you on how my work in Washington D.C. affects you and your family.

Dear Friends, The collapse of the Senate’s Trumpcare legislation was a result of the American people speaking out against its devastating effects. Let me be clear, repealing the Affordable Care Act will cause irreparable harm to thousands of families in my district who already struggle to pay for a routine check-up. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) isn't perfect, but it's time that both sides of the aisle come together and work on a bipartisan fix that works for all Americans.

Dear Friends, On Wednesday, June 14, 2017, the halls of Congress were shaken when an individual committed a violent attack against my Congressional colleagues. As a nation, we must remember that violence of any kind does not solve problems. Whether we’re Democrats or Republicans, we should always conduct our debates in a civil manner. At the end of the day, we are all here to continue to give voices to the communities we represent. Whether it is ensuring our veterans have the resources they need to ease their transition into civilian life, ensuring all Americans have access to quality healthcare, or defending vulnerable refugees, I will continue to fight for you.

Dear Friends, I believe that investing in our youth is an investment in our future. That is why this month, I hosted my Third Annual Teen Summit and Job Fair and reintroduced legislation that will make it easier for students to achieve their higher education aspirations. During the Teen Summit, 33rd Congressional District high school students were able to learn more about the college application process and military appointments, as well as apply for scholarship and financial aid opportunities. In addition, students had the opportunity to apply for summer internships, apprenticeships, and jobs throughout the Metroplex.

Every day I am privileged to represent the hardworking men and women of the 33rd Congressional District of Texas. With that responsibility, I always think about how the votes I take in D.C. will affect Texans, but more so than ever this last month when the right to health care was hotly debated. Thanks to your calls, letters, emails, and vocal opposition, the repeal of the Affordable Care Act never came to a vote. Since the landmark legislation’s enactment seven years ago, 20 million Americans have gained access to health insurance and millions more received additional benefits to keep them.

Dear Friends, The month of February marked Black History Month. We took time to pause and honor our origins and the many contributions made by the African-American community. We also recommitted ourselves to remembering those who came before us and the work that remains to be done to ensure the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness is guaranteed to every American.

Dear Friends, The beginning of the 115th Congress and a new Presidential administration have many Americans worried about the future of healthcare, immigration reform, and our country’s compassionate response to the global refugee crisis. As legislators, we have a responsibility to act in the best interests of our constituents and earn their continued support by defending and creating policies that will protect their rights and improve their day-to-day lives.

Dear Friends, This month we reaffirmed our commitment to our nation’s men and women in uniform who bravely place their lives on the line to fight for the liberties we enjoy every day. I had the opportunity to honor local veterans for their sacrifices during my annual Veterans Town Hall and also introduced legislation to make sure our veterans, service members, and their families have the resources they need when making important financial decisions. It is our duty to ensure that our veterans are treated with the utmost dignity and respect not only on Veterans Day but throughout the year.
