Veasey marks the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, where Dr. Martin Luther King gave his historic “I Have A Dream” speech that inspired a nation. More than 200,000 people – of all races and backgrounds – came from all over the country to participate in the March, calling for fundamental social and economic justice for all Americans, at a time when many public facilities in regions of the country were still segregated. |

July 2013 - United We Dream Press ConferenceRep. Veasey attended the United We Dream press conference in Washington D.C on July 25, 2013. The press conference advocated for immigration reform reminding politicians that DREAMers will reject any efforts to divide our communities and put DREAMers on a path to citizenship while leaving our families behind. Rep. Veasey reiterated his commitment to stand with DREAMers and push for real immigration reform with a path to citizenship for 11 million Americans without papers. |

2013- Congressional Art CompetitionRep. Veasey announced the winner of the first Annual Congressional Art Competition for Texas’ 33rd Congressional District at a reception titled “An Artistic Discovery” held at Mountain View College in Dallas, TX. The competition winner, Carlos Ramirez, is a senior at Grand Prairie High School and entered a photo entitled, “Sewing Machines.” Over 30 entries were summited by students from various CD33 High Schools. Ramirez was awarded a round-trip ticket to Washington, DC to attend a reception and view his piece on display at the United States Capitol, where it will remain on display for the year. |
