TODAY: Congressman Veasey Preps Food at Oak Cliff Taqueria

September 23, 2014

Dallas, Texas— In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, U.S. Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, will spend some time working behind-the-scenes at a Latino family-owned restaurant in Dallas.

As part of his Marc Means Business initiative, Rep. Veasey will visit Oak Cliff's Los Torres Taqueria, on Tuesday, September 23, where he will work the lunch shift helping with food prep in the restaurant's kitchen and serving customers.

Los Torres Taqueria, run by Ramiro Torres, his wife Irene and her sister Evangelina, specializes in the cuisine of the Sinaloa state in northwest Mexico.

Latinos remain the fastest growing ethnic group in the U.S., and they are among the most entrepreneurial. According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), there are more than 3 million Hispanic-owned businesses in America today and they are starting businesses at three times the national average. Los Torres Taqueria was chosen to highlight Hispanic-American entrepreneurship and Hispanic-owned businesses' role in the economic vitality of the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

"I want to hear about the concerns of minority business owners, their employees and customers," Rep. Veasey said. "I am honored to work alongside the hardworking staff of Los Torres Taqueria and I'm also looking forward to enjoying some of the great food I'll get to help prepare."
