Congressman Veasey Seeks Young Artists for 2015 Congressional Art Competition

March 16, 2015

Washington, D.C—Today, Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, announced that the 33rd Congressional District is now accepting submissions for the 2015 Congressional Art Competition. Since the creation of the competition in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

The winner, in addition to having their artwork displayed in the Capitol, will also be provided with two roundtrip tickets to attend the ribbon cutting ceremonies of the art exhibit in Washington, D.C.

A panel of local art experts will judge each student's work and choose the winner and the runners-up.

Last year, Maria Nino-Garcia, a senior at Everman High School, took home the top prize. Her winning entry, "Enclosed by Nyx," a charcoal self-portrait, was the winning selection out of 61 entries. All art submissions were honored at the district's reception and the winner was recognized in a reception in Washington, D.C.
