Though attendance was lower than organizers had hoped, thousands of people marched across downtown Dallas to City Hall on Sunday, April 9 demanding immigration reform.

At Dallas City Hall, speakers represented the broad spectrum of organizers.

Speaking as a member of the LGBT community, the Rev. Neil Cazares-Thomas of Cathedral of Hope called himself an immigrant and an American and said the Bible teaches us to welcome the stranger.

With the heat of the day beating down on downtown Dallas, a mass of people dressed in red, white and blue packed Pearl Street in front of Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe.

They held up American flags and signs that read "Rise Up" and chanted in Spanish, "Sì se puede."

About 3,200 people marched Sunday, according to a tweet from the Dallas Police Department, from the cathedral to Dallas City Hall in the Mega March……

DALLAS – U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, a Republican from Austin who chairs the House Homeland Security Committee, said the United States should lead an effort to remove Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from power.

"Yes, he's been the problem. He's been the magnet for the Sunni extremists coming into Syria. He's been the architect of the civil war. With him in power, we cannot reach a peaceful settlement," said McCaul to WFAA-TV's Inside Texas Politics on Friday. "I think it's time for Assad to go."

CAPITOL DIVIDED OVER SYRIA STRIKES Capitol Hill is divided over President Donald Trump's decision to launch missile strikes against Syria, but not along partisan lines. Trump's action, taken after the Syrian government killed dozens of its own innocent people using chemical weapons earlier this week, was mostly supported by congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle. But top Democrats added a key caveat to their support: Trump better consult with Congress if he plans to escalate attacks against the war-torn country.
